Collegiate shag is a popular style of dance that originated in the 1920s and became popular in the 1930s. This style features a fast-paced, energetic dance form that is characterized by intricate footwork and a bouncing motion. While there are no true synonyms for collegiate shag, there are related styles such as Jazz, Swing, Lindy Hop and Charleston which share many of the same elements and are often incorporated into the dance. These styles draw inspiration from the same era and can be seen as extensions of collegiate shag itself. However, the unique footwork and bouncy motion that define collegiate shag cannot be replicated in other styles.
