These terms are less stigmatic and allow for a grudging acceptance of the reality that many individuals struggle with drug addiction. Nevertheless, it is essential to remember that using any of these labels to refer to a person suffering from addiction is unacceptable, as it perpetuates prejudices and hurts the ones struggling with this illness.
